Preferred By Pets Grooming

FAQ

Question:
What kind of products do you use?

Answer:
We are proud of the grooming products we use and don't skimp when it comes to buying top quality products. We never use anything harsh or full of chemicals. We carry a variety of shampoos, conditioners and dips and we try to match these up with your pet's particular needs. They are always gentle, natural, eco-friendly and as chemical-free and/or organic as possible. We have these products on our skin every day, so they need to be gentle for us as well!

Question:
Why does it take so long to get my pet groomed?

Answer:
The time spent grooming (and doing a good job) very much depends on the type and size pet you have, the condition of the coat, and even how well they hold still. Generally speaking, the more matted the fur or thicker the coat, the longer it takes. Complex haircuts or fidgety dogs also require a little extra time. In addition, groomers need a little wiggle room in their schedule to answer phones, talk to customers or to eat a quick lunch.

We do make every effort to get your pet finished in a reasonable amount of time, however, if you need your pet done especially quick, ask about our "Express Groom" service.

Question:
Why does my pet's grooming cost more than getting my own hair cut?

Answer:
Simply put, there is a lot more work involved in grooming an entire dog vs. grooming the hair on your head. The service that a groomer provides is far more extensive than that of a hairdresser. For example, you will probably never ask your hairdresser to also give you a full body bath or give you a manicure/pedicure without expecting to pay more! Your hairdresser is also pretty confident that he/she will never need to take you outside to go potty or be scratched or bitten on the job!

Question:
Do you offer day-care or boarding?

Answer:
No, but we can recommend some kind-hearted businesses to you.

Question:
Can I stay with my pet while he's being groomed?

Answer:
No, which is for the safety of your pet. Pets, like children, will almost always be on their best behavior for other people. If you are present, they are only going to wiggle and squirm in order to get closer to you - which makes our work much more difficult and time consuming. If you would like to watch us work on someone else's pet, then that can be arranged.

Question:
How often should I groom my pet?

Answer:
We recommend a 4-6 week maintenance schedule for most pets. A few lower maintenance breeds can go a bit longer such as 6-10 weeks. If you maintain good pet grooming habits, it will go a long way in reducing stress on your pet when they do come to see us!

What All The
Barking Is About?

We first started using Preferred by Pets about 5 years ago and quickly became devoted clients. I really appreciate the magic of their professional skills and attention to even the smallest of details in my Sheltie's grooming. I am also confident knowing that Blaze and Bronte are being handled and treated with love and great care...which is precisely why I wouldn't take them to any other groomers but Preferred by Pets!!

To my dear PBP friends, I can't say enough about how thankful my husband and I are to have a grooming facility like Preferred By Pets for our dogs. It's the opposite of so many of the new "pretend spa" groomers that are staffed by people who don't really know your animals, much less care anywhere to the degree that our friends at PBP do. I've also visited what I thought were good neighborhood groomers, only to find they were far beneath the standards of hygiene I would have expected.

Our dogs, Maggie and Carmelita, are both shelter dogs and have been through their share of trauma, so the kindness and gentleness with which they're treated at PBP mean everything to me. The dogs may not LOVE the whole grooming thing, but they love the people there. Another thing that's important is the ease in making appointments and the reliability of of their pick-up times.

I've also observed the other pet owners who bring their animals to PBP. They obviously adore their pets and so choose the best there is. Me too.
